The studio is on an old downtown-style street about 1 mile from the actual downtown Greensboro. It is a very cute boutique store street with lots of businesses for shopping, coffee, and relaxation :) Our studio is actually an old renovated yellow house complete with a front porch and outside garden areas.
So, to say "studio", doesn't nearly describe this eclectic and vintage location we chose for photography. The studio is inviting and warm, lending to our "Ambient Light" natural lifestyle photography. It is a place to have fun and explore, a place to cuddle up with, and a place you would call your own. A session with us is unlike what you would expect from other "studios".
Inside the studio we have several different rooms dedicated for photography. We have a large "family" room, a "backdrop room" (also not what you'd typically expect!) and two playrooms designed and dedicated for children.
Inside the studio we also do our proofing and sales, with photography examples, cards, and coffee table photo books. After our sessions we bring our clients back to the studio to view their high resolution proofs on a large widescreen computer.
Children
When photographing young children Andrea Halsey will utilize the rooms inside the studio as well as the garden areas outside. Judy may also take older children on a walk down State Street, where many buildings, subjects, and textures are also utilized for photography.
Teens and Adults
Whether you are getting Senior Portraits or having an Engagement Session, John Frost will meet you for the perfect photo location. With places such as our own State Street, downtown Greensboro and Train Station, or local gardens and parks, you will "look and feel like a model".

There are three of us right now at Ambient Light each specializing in different styles and fields. Our main goal is to provide top quality, magazine style photography for the everyday family! Our local children's photographer Andrea Halsey specializes in young children and lifestyle photography. Judy Auger is our local children's photographer focusing on grade-school aged children and their families with a lifestyle flare. John Frost is our local modeling photographer specializing in making teens and adults look and feel like models.
Together we work on projects like group photography events at discounted rates! We also work on weddings and engagements utilizing Andrea Halsey's design expertise to create unique and high-quality products like save-the-date cards, wedding announcements, and wedding albums. These same high quality products are also used for birthday cards and invitations, graduation contact business cards, and specialty photo albums.
The name Ambient Light comes from our ability to use the natural light around us for the most flattering and attractive photos. We avoid using flash or lights to make our subjects feel comfortable and allow them to have fun, which produces amazingly relaxed and fun photographs. This is how John Frost achieves a model-like photo shoot for teens and adults, and how Andrea and Judy create lifestyle portraits of children and families... capturing them as they are, never staged or posed!
Ambient Light has room for new photographers who are interested in joining us. While each of us enjoy all areas of photography, we would love to have photographers that specialize in specific fields to join us. If you are interested please contact us.
We hope you enjoy our new blog and don't forget to keep an eye out for our specials, or contact us to schedule your personal photo session!
